WHO ARE WE AND WHAT DO WE WANT?

We are a network that wants to unite and link Colombian astronomy students

with professionals and aspiring astronomers.

MISSION

RECA is an association that seeks to create and strengthen links between astronomy students in Colombia. For this, RECA aims to create spaces that allow the exchange of ideas and significant experiences among its members, where mutual support prevails for the realization of various academic and social impact projects.

VISION

RECA is projected as the main network of Colombian students in Astronomical and Space Sciences with national and international recognition. This network seeks to positively impact the development of Colombian astronomy through direct support to the student astronomical community in the country. The network is seen as a bridge between students, universities, schools, institutions, and other guilds interested in the professional development of astronomy at a global level.

NETWORK

Create support networks linking the student astronomical community with various guilds interested in the professional development of astronomy.

REPORT

Distribute and communicate information regarding events, conferences, workshops, research and work opportunities, among others, in the areas of Astronomical and Space Sciences.

GENERATE RESEARCH

Support the training of students in research to facilitate their transition to the professional astronomical community or the job market.

INTRODUCE PROJECTS

Endorse the access of the student astronomical community to national and international research projects.

EDUCATE

Promote access to astronomical knowledge from the initial stages of student training - elementary and middle school - supporting teacher training projects.

DECENTRALIZE PROFESSIONAL ASTRONOMY

Circulate astronomy in a professional non-profit manner, offering opportunities to all regions of the country without centralizing

RECA AS A LATIN AMERICAN FOCUS

Disseminate the "RECA" initiative to other Latin American countries in order to contribute to the world astronomical community, while receiving scientific contributions from all related fields.

INTERNSHIP NODE

Coordinates the internship program in Astrophysics: Looks for projects and researchers around the world to promote research in undergraduate students from all over the country.

Coordinates the logistics and structure of the mentoring program, whose objective is to advise students to project themselves in their career as astronomers.

EDUCATION NODE

Supports bringing astronomy to schools in all regions of Colombia. Works with teachers to generate astronomy workshops and projects. Serves as link with the Office of Astronomy for Education of the IAU: OAE-Colombia.

Generates promotional pieces, feeds social networks and maintains the website updated.

INSTITUTIONAL RELATIONS NODE

Creates and keeps alliances with other institutions/groups in line with our mission as RECA. Communication bridge between the network and its allies. Supports the formalization of necessary procedures in the other nodes.

CENSUS NODE

Analyzes RECA database and presents the results in different formats. Serves as information bridge between the website and communications.
